may be there is no doubt of a much healthier feel" ing in the market, which it is said has lei to some speculative forward purchases, through one could hardly imagine there was much inducement while stocks here remain so abundant. The market for Native Cotton has been rather more active, hut prices show little or no change, closing quiet but firm. Grey Shirtings.-Although no doubt a cer. tain amount of reselling is going on in these market. private business from first hands is very slacks and consists generally of small trivial lots of con- signment cargo. For instance, we have heard of sales of about 4,250 pieces 39-inch goods of vari. bus weights from 11 to 15-1hs, at Tis. 3.60 to Tis. 45, under new chops, and doubtless other sales of a similar nature are being made, but can scar- cely be taken as any criterion of the market. White Shirtings.-Though we have not heard of say transactions in spot cargo from first hands we understand resales of some 500 cases have been made to Hankow merchants at prices ranging from Tis. 3.50 to Tls. 4.50, a comparatively small but welcome relief to the market. T-Cloths and Jeans.-These goods also show a substantial im- provement at Auction. Drills and Sheetings. -A distinctly strong feeling has sprung up during the latter part of the interval and prices are im proving daily, especially for the former. There have been considerable resales to Tientsin. Fancy Goods.-A feature this week has been a revival in the enquiry for Prints, although so far it has only taken shape in a few indents for special designs for January-March shipment. Dyed goods appear to have got out of reach with the late rise in Egyptian Cotton. At auction Turkey Beds continue to improve, at all events in never chops. Fast Black Cotton Italians appear to have about reached their limit, and though they sold very irrgularly this morning the ten- dency was slightly lower. Woollens —In Camlets pink has recovered and some of the other colors are firmer, but Scarlet is weaker again. Long Ells are firmer and also the higher reed of Lastings, while Spanish Stripes are fairly steady.
