A Daily Press telegram dated Shanghai, November 5th, said :

German Consular Constable Hiemann, while walking with a Russian friend from Woosung to hanghai on Sunday evening, was attacked by villagers.

They seized bis pistol and threw him, while bound, into a creek, whenes escaping after half an hour, he bid in a paddy field.

Eventually he and his friend reached Yangtse- poo this morning, both almost stripped of clothing.
