The case is remanded until the departure of Segretary Taft and his party.

FAT SHAN TO BE FOLICED. The town of Fat Shan has lately been infested with robbers and bid characters. The Sub-prefect, who is the Chief Civil Officer in charge of the police, has requested the Man Sin Tong, one of the far leading charitable societies there, to immediatly draw up regulations for policing the town. In order to get funds to defray the monthly expenses of the police. department, the Mao Sin Tong propose!

Observing that the policing of the town is virtually necessary, and not having any fands in had at present to commence the work, the directors of the Man Sin Tong have com to the conclusion to borrow a sum of 85,000 tals from the Sin-Hau-Kuk here to start op ›rations at one.
Canton, 4th September. VISIT OF SICRETARY TAFT AND PARTY. Secretary Taft and Miss Roosevelt, accom ranied by the United States Consul General, Mr. Lay, arrived here this morning by the United States gauboit Cillao. The rest of Mr. Taft's party (altogether about fifty individuals, came up by the Hongkong, Canton and Maca Steamboa! Company's steamer Kin Shin. Mr. Taft and his party cane to Shamen at about 8.3) a.m. by steam launches. DISTURBANCE IN WAICHOW Sometime ago I mentioned that there wis a Berious rising in Wai Chow, Yesterday news was received from that district stating that the insurrection has not been quil'ed yet. It app ears that the rebels have shifted their lead. quarters to a place cilled Pai Mi Yusn in the Pok Lo district. The rebels all disperse in the daytime but gather together in the night to plander and rob the villages. On the 20th alt. he rebels pirated the Poki jonk nar Ɛuɔ Tung, and on the following day they pir.ted a : Kung Chong junk anchored in Pok Lo. The whole of the district is now in a panic.
VICEBOY'S HEALTH.
I hear that Viceroy Sham's health is gradually improving. He has give up the idea of going. to the White Cloud Mountains to recruit his health. He has, how ever. deputed an off or to repair some of the rooms in the Naval College at Wongpo, where he intends shortly to visit for a change, and at the same time to investigate the torpedo works, and inspect the for¡ edỡ fleet.

COUNTERFEIT COINS.
Large quantities of counterfeit coin: hive been discovered in circulation lately, and th› local officials have been endeavouring to arrest the culprits. On the 29th ultimo, a min waS arrested (at Sai Nam, by a railway guard just as he was entering the tra'n) for being in possession of a whole trunk filled with counterfeit subsidiary coins. He was inmediately handed into the custody of the officer in charge of the Nɔ. 3 railway guards, who has since sent the prisoner to the Foon Yi magistrate for trial. Another instance happened in Ho Nam on the 2nd instant, when a man was oirrying a large paper parcel containing four hundred dollars of subsidary coins in the strest. Su'denly the paper gave way and all the coins rolled into the street. A ɔldier who happened to be there picked up a few of the coins and immediately - discovered that they were counterfeit, bat before he could say
