Fifty natives appeared before the Magistrate at the Police Court on Aug. 18 charged with creating a nuisance by the burning of Josa paper in the streets while celebrating the devil's festival. Heat apoplexy claimed another victim at Shanghai on August 5th in the person of Mr.. John Callaway, formerly, when he was in the ` employ of Messrs. Butterfield and Swire, a very well-known figure there. He has been lately on the staff of the Woosung Railway. He was taken to the General Hospital and died six hours after admission. This appears to be the fourth death fr、 m heat.

Arrangements have been made by the Osaka Shosen Kaisha for the opening of a weekly service between Osaka and Port Arthur, with Nagasaki as one of the ports of call. The first steamer in this service was the Kanko-maru,

It has been understood for some little time that the China Traders' Insurance Co., Ld., was to be amalgamated with the Union Insurance Society of Canton, says the N.-C. Daily News. In their Share Report of the 10th inst. Messrs. J. A.
