HONGKONG, 24th March, 1905.—Our market has continued active throughout the past week, and a good general business has been transact- ed. The chief feature has been a further improvement in Chins Sugars which continue in demand.
BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais bare been booked at $755 and $750 closing quiet but steady at the latter rate. London is slightly lower at £76. 10s. Od. Nationals have sold, and are stil. in req zest, at $36.
MARINE INSURANCES-Unions have been booked at $695, and more shares are procurable. China Traders are offering at $58, and North Chinas at T'ls. 95. Yangtaz-s and Cantons are unchanged and without business.
FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkongs have been booked at $310 and Chinas at $86, the latter closing with further sellers.
SHIPPING. Hongkong, Canton and Macao
Indo-Chinas are unchanged at $261 sellers.
have been booked at $124 and $123, and close with sellers at the latter rate. China and Manilas have been fixed at $214. Douglases are wanted at $34, Shell Transports are easier with sellers at 21/-. Star Ferries unchanged. REFINERIES-China Sugars have steadily improved from $230 to $239 cash and for settle. ment account, with sales at intermediate rates, and close with buyers at $224 ex the fical divid end of $15 per share for 1904 paid to-day. Luzons have been booked at $25 and $26, and more shares are wanted at the higher rate.
MINING.-Raubs are weak with sellers at $4. Charbonnages unchanged.
DOCKS, WHARVES, AND GODOWNB.-Hong- kong and Whampoa Docks have sold at $206 and $205, closing with buyers at the latter rate. Hongkong and Kowloon Wharves have advan- ced to 8107 with sals and further buyers. Farahams have been booked locally at Tls. 144 and Tls. 145, and are now enquired for at Tls. 146.
Hongkow Wharves have improved to Tis. 157 and Tls. 14 for the old and new issues respectively.
LANDS, HOTELS, AND BUILDINGS.-Hong- kong Lands are firmer with bayers at $1.7. Kowloon Lands contine in request at $39. West Points are procurable at $55. Hong. kong Hotels are firmer and can now be placed at $145.. Humphreys' Estates have sold at $11.90 and $12 and are in further request. Shanghai Lands are easier in the north with Bellers at Tis. 114.
COTTON MILLS.-EwOs have advanced to Tls. 95 after sales at Tis. 33. Hongkongs have been fixed at $154 and $16 closing with probable buyers at the latter rate. MISCELLANEO08.- Dairy Farms are firmer with buyers at $124. Green Island Cements have improved to $39 cum new issue with buyers, South China Morning Posts have been booked at $23 and Watso1s at $121 and $12 for the old and new issues respectively. Electrics wanted at $16 (old) and 810 (new).

The market has remained fairly steady during the week, opening at Tls. 141-2 for March; the market rose to Tls. 145 with sales for April at Tls. 144 and 146; July Tls. 150, 151, 152 and 158. The market closes with sales for March at Tls. 141, forward rates being maintained. Shanghai and Hongkow Wharf Co. The news that directors proposed to pay a final dividend of Tls. 6 on the old and Tis. 3 on new for the year ending 81st December caused enquires for these, resulting in business at Tls. 175 or March and April, and sales for cash at Tis. 1771, 180 and 182), all eni. TONNAGE.
HONGKONG, 24th March.--There has been more demand for tonnage during the past fortnight. From Saigon to Hongkong, 14 cents nominal; to Fhilippices, 34 to 36 cents per pioul according size; to Japan, 30 cents per picul. Java to Hong- kong, 30 cents per picul wet sugar. Coal freights are weak. From Karatza to Hongkong, $1.40; to Swatow, $1.75 per ton. Several steamers have been fixed on time ch rter at good rates, The following are the settlements:- Derwent-British steamer. 1,309 tons, two ports north coast Java to Hongkong, 30 cents per picul. Nubia-German steamer, 2,234 tons, Moji to Swatow (part cargo), $1.75 per ton,
Fido-Norwegian steamer, 890 tons, Hongkong to Kobe, $3,000 in full.
