Hongkong Weekly Press AND China Overland Trade Report All

COMMERCIAL.

The Yokohama Prices Current and Market Report, published by the Yokohama Foreign Board of Trade, dated February 28th, has the following:-

IMPORTS.

Yarns-No change. Shirtings.-Greys and Whites have been taken, but only on a retail scale. Fancy Cottons and Woollens. In Fancy Cottons, a few orders have been placed for Velvets, Cotton Sateens, and Victoria Lawns, but the up- ward movement in Manchester has operated against business in the last two classes of cotton manufactures. In Woollens and Mixtures there has been no change since last Report, but arrivals are quickly taken up, and some forward business has been done. Metals. The market has been quiet, and the business transacted during the past fortnight has been small. Kerosene.-Market very dull, with a downward tendency. Sugar The market has been very quiet, and no business has been put through, either in imported Refined or Raw. Consumption is being greatly curtailed by the high prices ruling, which are due not so much to the enhanced first cost as to the heavy taxes imposed. The auction of the Tokyo Re- finery Sugar on the 26th instant, resulted in the sale of 8,400 piculs at an advance of three sen per picul. Indigo.-There is still no movement.

EXPORTS.

Raw Silk.-A fair demand has continued during the last fortnight at steady prices, but at the close things are again slightly easier. Available stocks are, however, very poorly assorted, and desirable parcels diffloult to obtain: Spring Reel- ings have already begun to appear in the market, and about 10,000 bales are expected to arrive before the end of the season.

Tes.-No change. Total settlements from May lat to February 28th amount to 178,600 piculs, against 194,600 picula at the corresponding date last year.

Fooohow, 17th February,-The Season being finished, this is the final Circular published by the Foochow General Chamber of Commerce. No settlements have taken place since last Circular. The total Export as per Customs

Stocks of Bean- at the principal depots in the interior are estis mated at 1,785,000 plouls, and it is feared that the quantity available before next fall, including stocks now in port, will not exceed 3,000,000 piculs.
