The Chefoo Daily News reports that a mine washed ashore on the beach about five miles east
of Chefoo. A passing mafoo hit one of the spikes with his whip, and he and some eight onlookers where blown to pieces.
Mr. E. P. Gueritz, the Governor of British North Borneo, arrived at Hongkong on Mar. 15 by the German mail steamer Prinz Heinrich.

On 20th February, at Peak Hospital, Hong- kong, A. T. BREDENBERG, late of I. M. Customs, Canton, died of heart disease, aged 60 years.

Mesara. Benjamin, Kelly & Potts are in receipt of telegraphic advices from Shanghai to the effect that the Shanghai and Hongkow Wharf Co., Limited, has declared a dividend of Tls. 6 per share on old shares and Tls. 3 par share on new shares.
Mr. Wm. Martin, American Consul at Nan- king, who returned to China from leave on March 2nd by the G.N.S. Minnesota, received a telegram from the State Department the same night, ordering him to proceed at once to Hankow- to take up the post of American Consul-General there.
The 8.8 Westminster Bridge, from Barry with coal on March 14, had an accident during the voyage. In the China Sea, her intermediate orank-shaft broke. The engineers were seven and a half days making temporary repairs be- fore the vessel proceeded on her journey to Hongkong.
At the Public Works department on March. 13th, Rural Building Lot 120, situsted near the Mt Gough Reservoir was put up for sale. The only bidder was Mr. A. Bryer (of Messrs. Leigh and Orange), and the lot was knocked down to him for $4,820, being $20 above the upset price.
The name of the new American consul at Newchwang is given as Sammons. We are sure, there is nothing fishy about his appointment. Mr. Miller of Newchwang is transferred to Yokohama. Mr. Davidson, who has been têm- porarily in charge at Shanghai, isto go to Antung when the war is over.

Li King Shek and his son have been arrested - by the Chinese authorities at Cauton-in connection with the recent failure st Hongkong | of the Kwong Yik Wo firm. The shop falled: shortly before the China New Y partners absconding (it is alleged) with *proceeds of a few thousand bags of flour.
