Mr. Eduljee in his report, dated Hongkong 4th Nov.. says-Nothing of interest has occurred in our market during the past fortnight. A quiet but steady business has been done at unaltered prices in spot goods, and at a decline of $1 to $14 in goods to arrive, and about 8,000 bales are report- ed sold. Buyers have confined their purchases to nearer delivery, comparatively little being done forward A8 dealers are reluctant to commit themselves in view of the weak and uncertain position of New Cotton. The enquiry was again Lower chiefly confined to No. 10s and 128. counts of No. 68 and 88 are wanted but the market is bare of stock. Prices generally are easier. but at the same time while holders are meeting any de- mand that exists there is no actual pressureto sell.
Local Manufacture :-The decline in rate of New Colton has enabled our local mill to enter into furthur forward contracts, and sales of 2,500 hales No. 10s and 12s, January/February delivery, have been reported at $114 and $116 respectively, rates showing a decline of $3 per hale.
Japanese Yarn:-Has ruled very quiet and & sufall sale of 50 bales No. 20s at $134); is reported.
Raw Cotton --The first importation of 296 hales New Bengals per s.s. "Gregory Apcar" was easily placed on the market at $31 The cotton is free from seed and yellow leaf, being cleaner and generally of a better quality than last season's. Nothing has been done in old Indian descriptions.
Stock about 400 bales. In China kinds sales of 250 bales (small) at $824 to $32 are reported with
an estimated stock of 500) bales. Quotations are New Bengals $28 to $31. Old $27 to $30 and China $31 to $321.
Exchange on India, after slight fluctuation, closes to-day at Rs. 137 for T/T and Rs. 137 for Post. On Shanghai 71 and on Yokohama 91.
The undernoted business in imported and local spinnings is reported from Shanghai during the
