Vancouver went off into first place at the fall of the flag, but Rajah took the lead early in race, followed up by Rose. As the Football Pavilion was approached the three leaders drew away from the field. No change took place in the relative position of the horses until they had reached Wongneicheong, where Mr. Cox held Rare Rose in band and fell back on the field, leaving Vancouver and Rajah three or four lengths ahead. The two leiders came up the straight neck and neck. After passing the post for the first time Vancouver and Rajah 1 slackened their pace and allowed the field to Of these Rebel King and Rare Rose held the lead. On the way to the Black Rock, Vancouver was still to the front with Rajah, Rebel King, Rare Rose, and Pandur following in the order named, At the Village Rajah gave way to his stable companion Polka. Vancouver also fell back, and Rebel King and Pandur came to the front. Coming up the home straight Polka jumped into the lead on the inside position, with Pundur behind. Mr. Master riding well out on the course sent Rebel King forward in good style, but was unable to gain the lead, and finished second, about a length behind Polka, with Pandur a good third. Vancouver and Rajah, who made the pace, finished among the last.

(Mr. Cox) Mr. John Peel's Royal, 10st 9lbs...

(Mr. Burkill) 2 There was not much doubt on the part of backers as to which of the two entrants would pull off this race. Royal at the fall of the flag made the running and led by a length till the Black Rock was neared when Coronet Rose was sent to the front and maintained the lead until the winning-post was reached. Royal made an attempt coming home to regain his lost advan- tage, but was shaken off by the leader.
