The following is the report of the directors to the thirteenth ordinary annual general meeting of shareholders to be held at the office of the Bank, Hongkong, on the 30th January at noon:-
The gross profits, including $15,613.80 brought forward from last year, are $291,885.87, which. after deducting all charges, allowing for bad and doubtful debts, and writing $5,000 off furniture account, leaves & net profit of $162,574.80.
This the Directors propose to deal with as follows:-To pay a dividend of $2.00 per share (in London 3/6) absorbing 380,906.00, to plac $60,000.00 to Reserve, and to carry forward $21,668.80.
On the departure of Mr. C. Ewens, Mr. Harston was elected a director, and on the departure of Mr. Lauts, Mr. Julius Focke was again elected a director. These changes will require your confirmation.
Mr. Chow Tang Shaug retires in rotation from the Head Office Board, and Mr. Stuart Wortley, K.C., M P., from the Lorden Com- mittee, and being eligible for re-election, offer themselves accordingly.

afternoon, about half-past five or so, three men believed to be the prisoners entered a house in Wanchai occupied by two women, and by means of threats with which they frightened the women, and assisted in their terrorism by having knives in their possession, succeeded in obtaining from these women a large quantity of property, jewelry and other things; an i then they left the house and disappeared. From information received by the police they visited on the following day a 162,574.80 brothel in the neighbourhood and there found several of the articles which were subsequently $291 885.87 identified as baving been stolen on the evening previously. They found in the brothel the first 15,613.80
and second defendants, and evidence would be given that the articles found in the brothel had 276,272.07 been taken there by the first defendant and given to one of the inmates, and also to show $291,885.87
that the three prisoners were together within a and reserve very short time previously in this brothel. They left the brothel, and within an hour or $ 5,000.00 so after that the robbery was committed. found together in the brothel in the cubicle of $2,530,000.00 one of the inmates and that all three prisoners visited that place on the morning after the robbery. The first prisoner admitted that he had the stolen goods in his possession, but said he got them from a man to keep for him and did not know they had been stolen.

IN SUMMARY JURISDICTION.
BEFORE HIS HONOUR A. G. WISE (UISNE JUDGE).
CLAIM BY WATKINS, LIMITED,
Mr. G. A. Watkins, of Watkins Limited, sued Captain Triplett, an unemployed master mariner, for $30.80 in respect of goods sold and delivered. Mr. F. X. d'Almada e Castro, solicitor, appeared for the plaintiff.
Defendant when called admitted $18.90 of the amount, But he repudiated the claim for aerated waters.. "Why," he said, "I never drink whisky and soda; I always drink it with water."
His Lordship-But you have admitted part of the claim?
Evidence having been given,
The jury found the first prisoner guilty of robbery, the second of receiving, and the third not guilty.
His Lordship sentenced the first prisoner to three years' imprisonment with hard labour and to receive 24 strokes of the birch within the first month of his ingrceration, and 'the second to eighteen months' imprisonment.
AN ABSENT JURYMAN.
When the first jury was empanelled in the forenoon Mr. W. S. Bailey's name was the sixth to be taken out of the box by the Registrar (Mr. A. Seth). Mr. Bailey was absent.
His Lordship directed that Mr. Bailey be notified to attend at two o'clock and explain his absence,
In the afternoon when the second jury was being formed Mr. Bailey's name was the first called. On this occasion he was present.
On being asked if he had any explanation to offer, Mr. Bailey stated that he had left his

His Lordship said the defendant must pay summons to attend the Court on his desk in and gare judgment accordingly.

The cases appearing on the list numbered seven, implicating eleven persons. No cases of & very serious nature figured among these.
DISCHARGED.
Hon. Sir Henry S. Berkeley, Attorney. General, who appeared for the Crown (instruct- ed by Mr. F. B. L. Bowley. Crown Solicitor), stated that in cases Nos. 5 and 7, against Fong Tam. and Wong Mun and Wan Cheung, no indictment had been filed.
Those defendants were accordingly discharged.
THE CHARGE AGAINST D, BAZIN.
The Attorney-General s id he proposed to take the case in which D. Bazin is charged with criminal libel ou Wednesday morning. Mr. Slade was appearing on the other side.
The defendant was liberated on extended bail.

from them a large quantity of jewelry and other property, and, alternatively, with having $ C. 390,515.81
on 30th November received the stolen goods.
They pleaded not guilty.

The Attorney-General in opening the case $4,845,863,95 said that on 29th November some time in the

When he was reminded that morning of the summons he at once came over in his launch but did not arrive till half-past ten, and as there was A case then proceeding he did not wish to interrupt the Court. He was sorry for his late arrival and hoped his Lordship would overl ok it, as he had served on the jury for many years and had never offended before.
His Lordship said that while he would excuse him, he was afraid his excuse was not a very good oue because he came half-an-hour late and the result was that somebody else had to take his place. However as he had served for many years as a juror and had not offended before his Lordship would excuse him and the best thing Mr. Bailey could do was to go into the box and serve on the present case.
ROBBERS.
Wong Chun and Kang Tam were charged with having on 23rd November at Chaiwan. assaulted a man named Shing Fat aud robbed him of $350, and with stealing from the house of Shing Fat property belonging to Cheung Kiu and valued at over $25; alternatively they. were charged with having received stolen pro- perty at Quarry Bay.
They pleaded not guilty.
The following jury was empanelled :-Messrs. W. S. Bailey, R. E. N. Padfield, P. Simoook, J. Rodger, A. A. da Roza, A. D. Humphreys and P. M. N. Silva.
The Attorney-General in opening the case said that on the 23rd November a gang of robbers entered the complainant's house in which were two men. They seized and tied up the two men, throwing lime in the eyes of one of them. Then they ransacked the place, stole the money and property, and decamped, Nothing was heard of the persons who had perpetrated the outrage until the 30th November. On that date
