CHINA OVERLAND TRADE REPORT.

SHANGHAI, 24th November. Messrs. J. P. Bisset & Co. of Shanghai, in their circular dated 20th inst., state:-A fairly large business has been done this week at varying rates. but closing all round on a higher basis than our last week's return. Besides our three principal stocks, viz-Langkats, Farnhams, and Indo- Chinas, there is practically nothing changing hands. The T. T. rate is 2/51. Banks-Hong- kong and Shanghai banks have improved con- siderably and are quoted from Hongkong at 86421. We believe a tranaction was put through at $665 for February but not officially quoted. The Lon- don quotation is £64 15s. Marine Insurance.-- China Traders have been dealt in at $59).-North China shares have slightly receded to Tls. 220 Yangtsze havo been placed at $135. Insurance. Nothing reported. Shipping.-Indo- Chinas. There has been a brisk demand for cash, November and Docomber shares, while the for- ward market beyond that date is very weak. Prices have improved from 11a. 52 to 54 cash: December 52, 54, 55 and 56} are recorded closing weak. For March Tls. 52. 54. 63 and 52 are recorded. Dock and Wharves.-S. C. Farnham,

Boyd & Co. There is still a good demand for shares and we close steady at Tls. 122 for cash, 124/125 December and 126 March. It is some- what difficult without an actual firm offer. how- ever, to know the market price. Hongkong Docks aro quoted at $203 buyers. Shanghai and Hongkew Wharves have been placed at Tls. 215 for cash. Sugar Cos. Nothing reported. Mining -Nothing reported. Lands.-Shanghais have been dealt in this week at Tls. 100 and 103 for cash. Industrial.-Cottons. Ewos at $35. Low Kung Mows at $35. Pulps have changed hands at 107 for cash. Maatschappij, &c., in Langkats. During the week notice has been given of a 5th interim dividend of $7.50 per share to be paid on the 15th December, making to date a total pay- ment of $35 for the year ending 31st October. A large business has been done since our last, and we have advanced from $283} for cash and November, to $290 for December. All rates from 2861 to 293 have been retur.c.i For January we close at $295 and for March 305. Our market is too erratic to make it worth while to detail every rate on each day. Stores and Hotels Centrals have been negociated at $26. Miscellaneous.-A single transaction in Tele- phones at $67 cash is reported. Loans.-Astor House Hotel Debentures 8 per cent. $:00. Shanghai Gas 6 per cent. $100. Shanghai Land 5 per cent, at $90, and Municipal Dbs, at $101.
