Toll Settlements to date :-42,787 half-chests against 53,690 half-chests to same date last year. Arrivals to date:-59,419 half-chests against 77,213 half-chests to same last year. Green Tea.-Country Tea.- fair business has been done during the interval at irregular rates, but on the whole prices show an advance of Tls. 1-2. Much of the irregularity in prices is apparent- ly owing to the diverse opinion of buyers as to the value of "style" or "water," some buying purely for appearance and others for some appoach to quality in water. The stock is much reduced and supplies are evidently drawing to an end. Pingeuey-Many of the sales reported belong to the previous fortnight's business. The few settle- ments made during the interval are on about the same level as before. Hysons. We have to report a quiet market, with unchanged prices. Foung Mees and Sou Mees.-Foong Mees are finding buyers at fully previous rates, but Sou Mees are slightly weaker. "Good" quality Sou Mees are selling at Tls] 80-85, " Medium 72-78, and lower grades from Tls. 58-65 p. pel.. showing a decline since our last circular of Tis. 8-4. The stock of Foong Mees is small and Teamen are very firm.

SHANGHAI, 5th November.
Messrs. Noel Murray & Co.s Piece Goods Trade Report of 5th November states: - Business during the past week has been somewhat interfered with by the Autumn Race Holidays, and in the quiet state of the market full advantage has been taken of them by most of those concerned in the Import trade. Many of the dealers do not come round until the afternoon, and knowing that with the closing of the Banks few merchants will be in their offices then, they do not trouble themselves to call. It may in fact be well that it is sơ, for with such daily fluctuations in exchango, particularly in forward rates, it is very risky to sell in currency unless exchange can be arranged At the same time there has been a little mure doing since our last issue, more $2.95 to $3.00 especially "to arrive," and although there is very little enquiry for goods in stock in first hands, there has been a fair amount of re-selling amongst the dealers, and we hear it has been practicable in some cases to obtain rather better prices. This is no doubt due to the lower level of Exchange. A fair forward business continues to be done in Heavy Grey Shirtings, White Shirtings and Fancies. Clearances have been fair, but we do not think much improvement is looked for this shortly for Newchwang, and so far there are no The last steamers will be leaving very
indications that there will be a great rush closed for the Winter. Tientsin is very quiet to get goods into the market before it is
and we have to-day been told, through Chinese sources, that telegrams were received yesterday afternoon stopping shipments hence as there was some uneasiness in that market owing to the new political complications at Pekin. The River Ports are quieter, tightness of money among the Native banks being again responsible for the slackness of business. Meanwhile advices from the producing centres all report a much firmer feeling. We hear that prices in New York are about three-half-pence per piece higher, while Manchester is reported to be very firm with more As we business doing, presumably for India. write we hear the market is again firmer, in fact the idea seems to be gaining ground that the present level of prices in likely to be maintained for some time to come, with a possibility of even higher rates, especially if it should happen that the American crop, as already predicted, should prove to be smaller than that of last year. From private sources we learn that the estimate has been wired out as ten and three-quarter million bales. The Liverpool mar et is firm with Mid American Cotton.at 5.74d. and Egyptian at 8.5/16d. Exports for the fortnight ending 31st ultimo were five million yards, which makes the total for the month of October thirteen million yards. The following figures may prove of interest.--
