CRICKET,

FIRST XI. NEXT XXIII. On the 10th inst.

commenced a match on the Cricket Ground batween the First XI. and Next XXIII.-ot, as first announced; between the First XII. and Next XXII

J. Hooper was unable to play for the First team, several changes being made in the other. The game was not remarkable, though several good performances were accomplishal. The XXIII. managed to run up 158, the chief stand being one of 33 by Ross and F. D. Bain for the eighteenth wicket. Ross's 43 was a capital innings and contained one hit for 6. For the most part the bowlers had the best of it and Rimington came out with the excellent figures 13, 0, 40, 11; in his first four overs he captured five wickets for 6 ruus. When the XI. went in they shaped very poorly, only two men making double figares. Walter Dixon car ried his bat for 19 ani), going in again when his side followed on, made another 19 before he was caught out. The XI did better in their second innings, and had scored 144 for 8 wickets when stamps were drawn, Chichester and William Dizon showing some vigorous cricket. The bowling honours for the XXIII. fell chiefly to the brothers George and Lionel Lammert. The XXIII. won the match by 95 ruus on the first innings. Scoreland analysis:-

H.K.C.C. V. SHERWOOD FORESTERS.

1100000-

It is not an exciting game which was witnessed on Saturday between a very moderate team of the H.K.C.C. and the Sherwood Foresters. The soldiers were completely outclassed, the wicket: down) and 68 runs. Club winning by an inuings (declared with 6 Li tle comment is called for. Lieut. Rimington alone managed to average 10 for his two efforts, and all four Club bowlers who were tried met with success, especially Chichester in the second innings, who captured 6 wickets for 7 runs, including 3 for 0 in his last over. Chichester was also a batting success, as he made 67 out of the 101 scored for the first wicket. After Mackenzie's dismissal 170 went up before another wicket fell. Then a collapse occurred, which was stopped by the Club's declaration of its innings. The Sherwoods' second attempt was a procession, the scores at the fall of the several wickets being:-0, 6, 13, 21, 27, 30, 40, 40, 40, 40. Score and analysis :-

ENGLAND V. SCOTLAND,

The Happy Valley links were the scene of a

G. P. Lammert, P. W. Goldring, H. R. Wells, and sixteen-a-side match between teams representing T. Sercombe Smith (capt.), did not bat.

0. M. E. W

H K. CIVIL SERVICE r. R.A.M.C. This match was played on Sunday at Happy Valley, on the former's ground, and resulted in a victory for the R.A.M.C. by 17 runs. For the losers Lander and Brett both batted well, and Witchell was in excellent form in bowling. Privates Cook and Williams shared the bow ling for the Medicals, Cook taking the honours, whilst Private Woolley was in splendid form in batting. Scores :-

Fugland and Sco land on Sunday, play lasting all day. Scotland in the end gained a meritorious victory by one point in the singles and 5 in the foursomes. The Scottish representatives were, as a matter of fact, 2 matches up in both, but it had been agreed that the winner of a match should score 2 points and the winner of a bye 1; giving the above-mentioned result in points.

The pairing was as following, the English player's name being put first in each case:- C. E. H. Beavis v. W. W. Clark; E. J. Grist v. Gershom Stewart; C. W. May v. J. Johnstone; C. A. Parker v. Capt. H. Crichton; H. Pinckney v, Murray Stewart; E. Deacon v. W. M. Ander- son; Capt. Phillips v. W. W. Ross; Lt. R. Dowding v. J. Stodart; J. E. Lee v. P. R. Scott; H. Hunter v. H. W. hobertson; A. B. Smith v. Capt. J. Douglas; C. H. Grac• v. K. McK. Ross; N. J. Stabb v. Major L. Gordon Cumming; Capt. F. Radford v. W. J. Gresson ; Dr Drew r. N. Taylor; Dr. Grazebrook v. Dr. Gibson.

An enthusiastic Scot carried away the detailed score last night, only one copy of which had been kept.

Reuter's Peking correspondent, leaving Peking on the 7th inst. for Newchwang, is reported to have said that he was “going to see Russia fail to evacuate Newchwang" on the 8th. He saw that event.
