CHINA OVERLAND TRADE REPORT.

Green Islands have declined to $227 without sa!-s.

It is said that some of the smaller Tientsin mer- chants, unable to obtain goods on that market except for payment with five-day Bank orders, have come down here lately and have made some purchases, which they are able to finance with the aid of the Native Banks here. This may possibly account for the enquiry from Tientsin mentioned in our last issue. The Newchwang merchants have again come into the market, and some 2,000 bales of American Drills and Sheetings are reported to have changed hands, and we have heard of re-sales of P. M. C. Drills at Tia. 4.34 ( Tls. 4.85, and small sales from first handa at Tls. 4.87) and Tls. 4.40. There are slightly better ad- vi es from Chefoo, and it is hoped that these dealers will soon begin buying again. Clearances continue fair for the River Ports, but for the other markets they continue in the same unsatisfactory condition. The price of Mid-American Cotton continues to fluctuate, for after Fising to 6.34d. it receded to 6.68d., or four points lower than last week. Egyp- tian Cotton is quoted 9,"d., which notes a slight advance. Both the Liverpool and Manchester inarkets are reported quiet but firm, with little or no business doing for this market. The New York market is firm, and although some of the mills have stock which they would doubtless like to see cleared, they are not prepared to accept any price. which is just as well as regards Sheet-China-Borneo Co., Ld. ings considering the overstocked condition of

our market here. It is aid that the stock of Raw Cotton in the States is very small.
