DEATHS.
St. Petersburg advices report that the Russian Eastern Asian Steamship Company is develop trade between the Black Sea ports and estallishing a direct service of steamers to *Port Arthur, Dalny and Vladivostock.
Plague is increasing in India. Certain district of Bengal are sadly smitten, and the death-rate is steadily rising within them. The mortality is very nearly as high again as that of the similar peri d of last year, but not equal to the figures of 1971.
The French craisor D'Entrecastcouz arrived

His Majesty the King has approved of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers being permitted to bear the distinction "Peking, 1900” upon the regimental colours in recognition of services rendered in North China. The Sherwood Foresters relieved the Welsh Fusiliers here.
A new steamer of about 2,000 tons deadweight carrying capacity, called the N.
