The following are the settlements :-

Į a keen demand for these shares. SHIPPING.-

Indo-China S. N. Co. Shares have be a placed for June Tls. 67; the market for cash abares is very firm and shar. a could be placed at Tls. 63 for en h with keen buyers at this rate or even better. DOCKS AND Wharves.-S. C. Farnham, Boyd and Co. Business has been done at 182, 183) cash, 184 for 15th current and 187 for March. The market closes strong with cash buyers and no shares offering. In Cotton Companys' sbares we have still no business to report. Laou-Kung-Mow Cotton S. & W. Co. Ld. The report and accounts for 19 2 have been published for the meeting of shareholders con- vened for to-morrow. The net profits for the year are Tls. 44,753.58, equal to 25 per cent. on the capital as compared with 6.21 cent. in

per the previous teru. There is no business in the stock to report. Shanghai Gas Co. Old and new shares are enquired for and we expect to see a considerable rise in quotations. Mants- chappij, etc, iu Langkat, Considerable rise in these shares has taken place since the market pened. Business has been done at Tls. 180, and on the arrival of the usual half-onthly telegranì" from the Company showing a very large output, | shares rose in anticipation of future increased dividends. This is very problematical. Business has been done and ghures are wanted at Tls. 187 | for cash ud are offering for February :ettlement at Tls 197). This improvement as resulted through there being buyers ad few sellers in the market. With the present f eling we look for higher at 8. Stores and Hotels. These are

MANILA, 2nd February (from Messrs. W. A. Fitton & Co.'s Monthly Market R port).—During the month under review the improvement report ed in our last‹ircular has continued. but there i too little free money about and too little confidence in existing conditions to permit opera- tions on sny large scale. Transactions-Gernina), | Maritimes, Eletric Lights, Icc Co, Varadı ro, and American Eank have all changed hands. De- mand-Rens chiefly on Germinal, Maritimas, ard Ice Co. stocks. Meetings.-Oriente Hotel Co. hold their fifth half-y, arly meeting 11th instant. Accounts now in hands of shareholders show a loss of $12.432.53; this is most discouraging to shareholders. Banco Espanol-Filipino on working year ended December 31, 1902, made a profit of $251,580:30; $60,000 was passed to Reserve Fund, which 'atter now stands at 3870 CC0, or say 18 per cent. of capital; dividend for the year was 12 per cent, thus absorbing $'8',000 of profits; $11,580,30 was carried forward to curent

year.

(Cigar Co.). Maritima, Ice Co., and Telephones. The meetings for current month are: Maria Cristina

Currency. As the Manila and American Chambe a of Cominer, e luve cabled their representative | at Washington regarding necessary reforms, and as Siaul has placed herself on a gold basis and China is talking of following suit, there appears some hope for exporters and importers ; present conditions are most unsatisfactory, and wo can look for no improvement in trade con- ditions generally until this currency question is adjusted. General-Headed by a few agitators and a small following of taos (mon by no means of the bitter class of Filipinos). Washington has been cabled to oppose immigration of coolie labour, which is absolutely essential to the prosper ty and development of these Islands. Currency, agriculture, and labour questions require imme- diate attention.
