Business

during the past week has continued exceedingly dull, and with the exception of a moderate in- crease in Banks, most stocks show a tendency towards lower rates.

BANKS. Hongkong and Shanghais have farther improved with sales up to $6624, at which rate, however, there are probable sellers. London still quotes £62. Nationals are un- changed at $27 sellers, but holders would probably accept $26.

SHIPPING. Hongko: g, Canton aud Macaos are procurable to a small extent at $36, after sales at $36 and $36). Indo-Chinas have sold at $86 $85 and 8814 aud close with probable sellers at $84. Douglases an be procured at $41. Star Ferries are wanted at $23 (old) and 813 (rew). Shell Transports have sold and can be pl o.d at £1. 12s 6i.

REFINERIES-China Sugars have rallied and after sales at $84 to $86 the market closes with probable buyers at the higher rate. Luzous can be procured at $12).

MINING.-Punjoms are wanted at $23. Ranbs have been booked at 86, and have further buyers,

DOCKS, WHARVES & GODOWNS.-Hongkong and Whampoa Docks bave been done at 82124 and $210, and we close weak with sellers at the higher rate. Hongkong and Kowloon Wharves have sold at $88 and more shares are obtainable. New Amoy Docks can be procured at 80.

LANDS, HOTELS & BUILDINGS.-Hongkong Lands continue firmi at $185 buyers. Kowloon Lands have sold at $30, and are in further request. West Points have improved to $57 buyers. Hongkong Hotels have sold at $141 and $140 and close with further shares offering at the higher rate. Orientes are un- changed at $37 sellors. Humphreys Estates after sale at $12] and $12} are reported offering at $12.

HONGKONG, 19th December.-Business tinues dull with little demand for tonnage. From Saigon to Hongkong, 10 cents per picul nominal; to Philippines and Java, no enquiry; to one port Japan, 27 cents per picul has been paid for prompt steamer, and 40 cents per picul for March loading. Java to Hongkong, 20 cents per picul offering for dry sugar. Conl freights are weaker: Moji to Hongkong. $2.50 per ton last; to Singapore, $3 per ton. The following are the settlements :---
