SHANGHAI, 10th December.- From Mesars, Noël, Murray & Co.'s Piece Goods Trade Report.- Since writing our circular on 29th ultimo, the import market has done nothing, its time, of which it has plenty to spare, having been occupied in watching the erratic movements of exchange and wonder- ing what is to happen next, At the moment im- porters are quite helpless to do anything, and the little enquiry there is, and which manates from

prices that it is not worth any attention whatever. The reason may now be considered closed with Tientsiu as far as direct shipments are concerned, and it is not expected that any great quantity will be taken during the coming mouths by the Ching Wan Tao route. There is very little doing with any of the other outports, Szechuen and the River Markets being much quieter again, while Chefoo and Ningpo are doing next to nothing. Thero is no fresh nows from New York, but latest advices from Manchester report a quiet market with no change in quotations. The export from England during the past month amounted to fourteen million yards of Plain Cottons, which shows a welcome falling off, and it is to be hoped on behalf of the trade here that they will continue to come forward on a still further reduced scale. Cotton in Liverpool is quoted 4 48/100d., and one telegram mentions it has a tendency to harden at that figure. There has been a speculative attempt to buy for delivery next Spring, but the prices offered are too frivolous to be entertained. It is rather curious to note that all prices at auction had a tendency to advance, and well they might do so.
