A million (gold) dollars' worth of opium was landed at San Francisco by the Japanese steam. ship Hongkong Maru, on her last trip from the Orient, the consigement being in 800 boxes from Macao.

The British North Borneo Coronation Con- tingent arrived at Singapore from home by the N. D. L. Hamburg on the morning of the 27th alt. The men, who were un er the charge of Lieut. Wardrop, were in excellent condition and seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed their trip to England. Their stay in Singapore was of short duration only, as they went on to Sanda- kan, by the s.s. Tringganu the same afternoon.

SHARE REPORTS.

HONGKONG, 3rd October-Attention dur ing the past week has been chiefly occupi d with the September settlement, which, though heavy and severe in Indo-Chinas, has been carried through with comparative sitisfaction. At the close there is a fair enquiry for most of our prin- cipal stacks at hardening rates.

BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais have ruled firm throughout the interval and are wanted at S600. The London rate is £63 as last quoted.

MARINE INSURANCES. - Unions have sold at $485 and are in further request. China Traders have been booked at $59. North-Chinas are procurable at Tls. 1871, and Yangtszes at $1271. Cantons are quoted $185 but with probablo sellers.

FIRE INSURANCER. Hongkongs rapidly advanced from $345 to 8360 with small sales at intermediate rates, and close steady. Chinas are wanted at the improved rate of $96.

SHIPPING.-Hongkong. Canton and Macaos are firm at $36 with probable buyers. Indo- Chinas, under the pressing requirements of "shorts" for the settlement have been booked at. $82 and $81, but since receded to a normal basis, closing steady at $80 Shares for Lecam- her delivery have been booked at 8824. China- Manilas after sales at 821 cash and $21) for October delivery, are in some request at $224. Douglases are wanted at $38 ex the devidend of $3 per share for 1901 paid in the 19th ultimo. Star Ferries are wanted at $20 and $10 for the old and new issues respectively. Shell Transports are unchanged at £Ï. 178. 61. sellers.

REFINERIES.-China Sugars are quiet with some sellers at 899. Luzous can be placed

at $10.

MINING. Punjoms are wanted at $14. Jelebus can be placed at $13. Raubs are ..22 pc. pm. unaltered at So buyers.

Humphreys Estates have improved to $11 buyers. Hong- kong Hotels, after sales at 8126 to $127, are in demand at the higher rate. Oriente Hotels have declined to $424 se lers.

COTTON MILLS.-Ewos are quoted rather lower at Tls, 39 sellers. Internationals are quiet at Tls. 30, Laou-Kung-Mows at Tls. 371, and Soy Chess at Tls. 150. Hongkong Cottons have sold and be procured at $17.
