H.E. Senhor Conselheiro Jose d'Azevedo Castello Branco, Portuguese Envoy Extraordi- nary to China, left Shanghai on the 1st inst., by the China Merchants' steamer Yushun, for

The British Minister at Bangkok, Mr. Reginald Tower, who has been suffering from typhoid fever, is making satisfactory progress and by this time should have started for Europe, via Singapore, on leave.
Between the afternoon of the 28th and the morning of the 29th ult., five cases of plague were reported at Tokyo. A special conference of health-officials was called on the 29th ult. to consider the measures to be taken for stamping out the disease.
It is reported from Peking to the effect that the Emperor has commanded that the Double Dragon of the First Grade, First Division-a decoration bestowed upon Royalty alone-shall be bestowed upon Prince Cyril Vladimirovitch, who recently visited Peking.
H.M.S. Endymion left Singapore for home on the evening of the 28th ult. It was expected that she would remain at Singapore until the 30th, but a telegram was received from the Admiral at Weibaiwei on Saturday, and accordingly she left as soon as possible.
The new Portuguese club at 31, Szechuen Read, Shanghai, was formally opened on the 28th alt. by H.E. Senhor Conselheiro Castello Branco. On the 30th a grand ball was given in bonour of the distinguished guest, about 180 people being present. The club is called the Club de Recreio.
The Paris Temps states that M. Delcassé obtained the telegraphed acceptation of the Governorship of Indo-China from M. Beau, who was away on a holiday. If he benefits by his change he will start for Indo-China by au early mail, le will go to Paris to receive the instructions of his Government.
A Simla despatch, dated June 23, says: - In consequence of the prevalence of dengue fever in the 33rd Burma Infantry, it has been decided for that regiment to stand fast at Rangoon, the 32nd Burma Infantry proceeding from Mandalay to China instead, while the 31st goes from China to Mandalay.
