BOWLING.
The first half of the bowling match between the Hongkong and German Clubs for the Challenge Shield, which the Gorman Club has already won twice in succession, was duly com- pleted on the 15th inst., and as a result the Hongkong Club was 32 pins to the good. The match was played simultaneously on the alleys of the two Clubs, one half of each team playing away from home. Both teams had been training for the encounter and the interest displayed was very marked. The start at the German Club was sensational, Gale for the British team and Müller for the German both making double after double. Gale broke down on his last ball, leav- ing 3 pins up, but Müller kept on and reached the coveted 300 amid loud applause. Gerrard followed Gale with an nseful 246, while Vollbrecht for the homesters made 225. The | Hongkong Club men went all to pieces on No. 4 alley, only scoring 693 to the Germans' 818, and on the arrival of the scores from the Hongkong Club it was found that their opponents had the serviceable lead of 381. On both sets of alleys, however, the British representatives now laid themselves out to reduce the deficit, and with the aid of a 258 from Gale, a splendid roll of 256 from Hiuds on the H.K.C. No. 2 alley, and a 249 from Gerrard on the G.C. No. 1 alley, Hooper's 228 and Bonnar's 244, overhauled the Germans, and at the conclusion of the day's play had the above reported lead of 32 pins Müller's fine 980 was the best score of the evening. The best individual coutribtions were:-At the Hongkong lab, Hinds 256 (No. 2 alley), Hooper 228 (No. 2)., Bonnar 224 (No. 1), Thiessen (222 (No. 1), and Wacker 207 (No. 2); At the German Club, Müller 300 (No. 2), Gale 297 (No. 3) and 258 (No. 1), Engel 279 (No. 1), Gerrard 249 (No. 1) and 246 (No. 3), Vollbrecht 243 (No. 1), and Walker 237 | (No. 1).
