VERNON & SMYTH'S SHARE REPORT. HONGKONG, 8rd May-During the past week a good general demand for most of the princi. pal stocks has been met with, and business has besu brisk at advancing rates.
BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais have been sold at rates rising to 390 per cent. pre- mium, and it is probable that more shares could be placed at that figure. The London rate has dvanced to £62. 158. Od. Nationals are un- changed.

MARINE INSURANCES.-Unions have ad- vanced to 8917, at which there are buyers. China Traders have been placed at 857 to $58. Cantons have been sold at $170 and have fur- ther buyers at the rats.
FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkong Fires have continued in demand, but not until $360 was reached could shares be obtained. The market closes firm at this figure. Chins Fires have been placed at $850) and 8871 and the demand continues at the latter figure.
SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macaos have been sold in, mederate, quantities at $343 and $35 and more shares are to be had at the latter rate. Indo-Chinas have improved their position, and after sales at $129 and $130 are in further demand at $131. China Manilas are wanted at $66 and $59 for the old and now shares respectively. Douglases have been sold at $51 and $514 and have further buyers at $52). Star Ferries (old) have been sold at $244, at which more shares are wanted. The new shares are obtainable at 810. Shells and China Mutuals are unchanged at quotations.

REFINERIES-Chins Sugars are quiot at $135. Luzons are weak with sollers at $38.
MINING-Punjoma, ordinary, are wanted at $6. Preferences are in the market at $1.20. Charbonnages have declined to $290, at which there are sellers. Jelebus are wanted at 85.20. Raubs have come into the market from Singa pore, and have been sold at $39, $38, 897 and $33. More shares are to by had at the last- named rate. Olivers are quiet at quotations.
DOCKS, WHARYES AND GODOWNS.-Hong- kong and Whampoa Docks have been the medium of an extensive business at rates rising to 89173 for cash, and up to 8335 for August delivery. At the close a few shares may per- haps he had at $315 cash. Hongkong and Kowloon Wharves have been done at $102, but have since weakened to $101, at which f
a few shares are on offer. Wanchais are on offer at $63. New Amoy Docks are wanted at $22§.
LANDS, HOTELs and BuildiNGS-Hong kong Lands have been sold at $199 caah, and the market closes with sellers at $200.- West Points are in demand at $53 · Hongkong Hotels have been placed at rapidly rizing rates to $128, and the demand continues. Humphreys Estates have been sold at $135 and $181, and more shares are wanted.
