HONGKONG ISLAND V. HARBOUR AND DEPENDENCIES,
A very pleasant game resulted from the match arranged for last Saturday, 16th inst. The am- phibious eleven led by 58 runs on a one-innings, but by no means a one-sided game. The chief scorers for all parts north of the new Prays as for as Samchun river, etc., etc., were Krickenbeek and Franklin, the former playing with confidence and strength. Later, Forsyth showed consider. able skill. Salter was the only successful bowler for the parent island, obtaining 5 wickets in his last four overs. Langhorne, Maitland, and Tuck all enjoyed themselves at the expense of their opponents, but it was Smith and "Dorehill who put the issue beyond doubt. Getting to- gether at 94, they rushed the score by smart ronning up to 172, when Smith left for a use- ful 44. With the rest of the eleven for part- ners, the Major hit away and tried hard to get into the next century on the ground, but put up one at 83 and retired for a brilliant innings, marked chiefly by well-judged running and play behind the wicket. For the losers Nichol- son put in many a good ball, and Wood finally caught Woodgates.

.112
The semi-final stage in the Shield competition was reached on Saturday, 16th inst., when the 15th Company (Siege Train), Southern Division, Royal Garrison Artillery, met the Victoria Recreation Club on the ground of the Hong- kong Football Club at Happy Valley. The weather was fine and the ground in good condi- tion, and with a large crowd of spectators lining the ropes everything promised well for a good match. The Biege Train were easily the far- ourites, but the "Vics" have greatly improved on their form of last year, and were expected to make a good show, The referee's whistle"saw the following players line up :-
V. R. C.—Go«lGidley; backs-Fittock and Duncan; half-backs-Loureiro, Lapsley, and Howarth; forwarda-Seth, Ynle, Brett, Herton, and Henderson.
Siege Train-Goal-Field; backs Moor- house and O'Brien; half-backs—Harman, Nicol, and Buttie; forwards—Gettings, Cleere, Phinn, Blair, and Bond.
The Siege Train kicked off facin goal, and in lem than half a miânte netted. The goal
