CHINA OVERLAND TRADE REPORT.

The race was an open one, all starting at place, Polka ultimately coming off best. The about equal chances. The distance was the German Cup same as for the Derby. Several false starts Darius's Glory. * 16lbs overweight. † 3lbs overweight. seven horses ran. All got off well, Ace of Though 27 had entered for this race only Hearts in front, but being almost immediate- ly displaced by Tubs Rose. Entering the straight for the first time the order was-Tabe Rose, Sinbad, and Ace of Hearts. On pass- ing the Bridge, Sinbad and Strategist were together, followed by Ace of Hearts; New Rose aud Tube Roso were together, with Edelweiss last. In the bead Sinbad got ahead of Strategist, Ace of Hearts being third, and Tube Rosa fourth. Coming down from the Black Rock Sinbad lost ground, Ace of Hearts taking up the lead, with Strategist second, and New Rose third. When passing the Village, Ace of Hearts was loading by three lengths; Strategist was second, but Tube Rose had got third place, New Rose being out of the running by this time. Acs of Hearts cantered. in eight lengths ahead of Tube Rose. A fine race between Polka, Strategist and Sinbad re- sulted in Polka securing third place. Time, 2 min. 44 1/5 sec.

There were altogether 13 starters for this race-the biggest field of the day. Naturally several false starts wore made, but fiually all got away excopt Deep Bay, which was left be- hind. Mentor took the lead, and maintained it till the Bridge was reached, when Bull's Eye took first place, having a good second in Lincoln. At the Black Rock Bull's Eye still led, Dingo and Mentor coming on second and third res- pectively. Dingo was going strongly, and, passing the Village, took the lead from Bull's Eye, which dropped into second place. Mentor and Sundowner taking third and fourth tively. Mentor now made a spurt, and at the Dis- tance Post passed Dingo, which, a good second, was followed by Blue Gua. Dingo was not defeated, however, and succeeded in repassing Mentor, winning a hard race by half a leagth,

SECOND DAY, Wednesday, 27TH FEBRUARY. Beautiful weather again favoured the Faces cu Wednesday. The events were the same as usual on the second day, except that the Scurry Stakes were displaced by the Great Southern Handicap. The Derby winner, Kismet, had been entered for two or three of the events, but owing to its being heavily handicapped did not start. In the first event, the Flyaway Stakes, Mr. G. H. Potts had entered his Desert King and Morituras, and both proved winners (first and third). Mr. Mansfield's Ace of Hearts won the Great Southern handicap easily. was expected that eight would start. Mr. Darick's Thunderstorm, however, did not got on to the course in time for the start, the race being begun without it. Hermit at once took the loud, followed by Baluchi and Morituru. Coming round the bend, Moriturus got ahead of Hermit, which took second place, together with Baluchi. Tit-Bits being last. At the Black Rock, Mori- turns was leading by four lengths, Desert King and Baluchi being second and third. Desert King continued to forge ahead, and by the time the Village was reached had come up to Moriturus Entering the straight the two ponies raced together, Baluchi being third, Esperance fourth, Blooming Rose sixth, and Tit-Bits last. At the Distance Post Desert King was still leading, but Moriturus had fallen behind, Es- pérance being second and Baluchi third. Mori turas, however, pulled up, and secured third place, Desert King being first and Esperance second. Three-quarters of a length divided the first and second, and three lengths the second and third. Time, 1 min. 32 2/5 secs.
