PROGRAMME.

We have received from the Hon. Secretary the following programme :-

Sailing Races.

1-A race for yachts 24 ft. linear rating and under, belonging to members of the Royal | Hongkong Yacht Club. No time allowance. Prize, a Cup. Entrance $5.

2-A Handicap race for yachts 24 ft. linear rating and under, belonging to members of the Royal Hongkong Yacht Club. Prize, a Cap. Entrance $5.

3-A Handicap race for all yachts belong. ing to members of the Royal Hongkong Yacht Club. Prize, a Cup. Entrance $5.

4.-A race for boats belonging to the Royal Navy, any rig. Prize, a Cup. Entrance 82.

5.-A race for boats belonging to the Royal Navy, Service rig. Prize, a Cup. Entrance $2.

6.-A race for all opeu boats (Chinese-owned boats excluded). Time allowance, 15 secs. per foot of length of boat overall per mile. Prize, a Cup. Entrance $2.

All the above to be sailed over a triangular course of about twelve miles, under the rules of the Royal Hongkong Yacht Club. Service boats in addition to be subject to the time allowances and special conditions, Us laid down in the latest rules for sailing races in the China Fleet.

Entries (accompanied by entrance fees) to be sent by noon on January 12th to the Hon. Sec., Major Koe, at the Hongkong Club or to the A.S.C. Office, Fletcher Street.

5.-A race for six-oared galleys, belonging to men-of-war of any nationality. 1st price $25. 2nd prize $12.

6. A race for twelve-oared cutters, belonging to the Royal Navy. 1st prize $40. 2nd prize $20.

CHINA OVERLAND TRADE REPORT.

7.-A race for-pared boats, belonging to the garrison. 1st price $25. 2nd price $10.

8.-A race for all boats belonging to the Royal Navy. 1st prize $30. 2nd prize $15.

In race: 4–8, four. boats to start or no second prize will be given.

The course for above will be from opposite Yaumati, finishing at H.M.8. Wivern, distance about thre-quarters of a mile, except for No. 3, which will be about half-a-mile.

1st--Taikoo Sports at Quarry Bay. 6th-H.M.S. Tweed's steam cutter had a brush with pirates on the West River. The pirates. on the launch Yuening, fled up a creek to Chutonshan, left the launch, and re- inforced by 50 villagers, fired on the crew of the cutter, wounding one severely. The latter recovered the launch and returned to the Tweed. Variety Entertainment at the City Hall in aid of the South African Fund. | $1,200 raised. –35, West Street gutted by fire. 8th-Hon. C. P. Li Hung-chang arrived at Hong- kong from the North on his way to take up the Viceroyalty of the Two Kwang.- Funeral of Mr. Granville Sharp at Hongkong, his body having been cremated in England. 15th-Li Hung-chang called on H. E. the Governor and proceeded to Canton-Mr. W. V. Drummond delivered an address on National Trouble bofore the Hongkong Odd Volumes Society.-Prince Henry of Prussia left Singapore for Europe.-Steam | launch Hunglee pirated at Kongmoon. 18th-Li Hung-chang took over the seals of the

Viceroyalty of the Two Kwang, 21st-Steamer Yao Kum running between Canton and Suncho seized by pirates, who also boarded a mandarin cruiser. 23rd-Frince Waldemar of Denmark reached Hongkong in the Danish cruiser Valkyrien. and called on H. E. the Governor.-Annual Prize Distribution at Queen's College. Ad- dress by Hon. J. H. Stewart Lockhart. 24th Prize Distribution at the Diocesan School by the Bishop of Victoria.-Imperial Decree announcing the resignation of the Emperor Kwang Hsu and succession of Pu Chun.

Bome 50 of the Was were killed on this and the succeeding day and 2,000 houses burnt.

17th-Steam-launch pirated between Canton and Kunshan. The pirates and the launch were recaptured by the Customs launch Foo Men.-Draw in the Hongkong Challenge Shield final tie between G. and H. Cos., R. W. F.

19th-Military Tattoo at Headquarter House Dallas Company in The Geisha at the

Theatre.

21st-Aunual Inspection of the Hongkong Volunteer Corps.-New railway bridge over the Perak River opened by Sir Frank Swettenham. 24th-Hon. R. D. Ormsby appointed Acting President of the Sanitary Board.--G. Co., R.W.F., defeated H Co., R.W.F., in the final tie of the Hongkong Challenge Shield by 3-1. -Presentation to Mr. W. D.
