HONGKONG, 7th December.-Malwa.-In con- sequence of short supplies from Bombay, our rates have advanced about $10 per picul. New at $790/800, old at $820/840.

Bengal.--There has been a continuous decline in the prices during the interval, mainly due to one of the importer s pressing sales, but when the rates reached $910 for both Patna and Benares, Chinese started to buy freely, We close with a steady market, Patna at $9131 and Benares at $910.

Persian. No settlements are reported market is dull and prices are expected to decline.

Mr. P. Eduljee says in his Report dated Hongkong, 7th December.--

r.--No increnso of business is yet noticeable, but as harvesting approaches completion, dealers

are making preparations to meet the expected resumption of demand. The market is showing signs of return- ing activity and we look for higher prices. Stocks are running down, receipts are now on a smaller scale, and holders are firmer, but prices are slow to more. Best spinnings are in short

No. 20s. continue to attract attention chiefly for the Northern markets and are 50 cents to a Dollar firmer in special spinnings. Sixteens and Twelves of desirable chops are salable at a small advance while No. 10s, still retaining the premier position as to demand, have become irregular in value.

Local Manufacture: The Hongkong S. W. and Dyeing Mills have not raised their selling prices and sales of about 500 bales No. 10s and No. 12s, at $87 respectively, have transpired.

Raw Cotton-Reports of decreased estimates in American and Indian crops have led to a suart advance of $2 to $3 per picul both in imported and Chinese descriptions and sales reported are 700 bales Toongehow and Ningpo at from $22 to $24, and about 500 bales Bengals at from $19 to $22, the local Mills being chiefly in evidence, Unsold stocks are estimated at 1000 bales Bengal and 300 bales Shanghai. We quote Bengal $17 to $22 and China $21 to $24.

Exchange on India has slightly advanced and closes to-day at Rs. 157! for T/T and Rs. 158 for Post. On Shangbai 714 and on Yokohama 3 per cent discount.

For the fortnight ending 3rd instant, the under- noted business in imported and local spinnings is reported from Shangtai, viz:—

Indian: Total sales 5,826 bales, comprising 2,750 bales No. 10s, 50 bales No. 128, 810 bales No. 163, and 2,216 bales No. 20s, prices showing an ad- steady. Estimated unsold stock about 24,000 bales. vance of one Tael in No. 208, and market closing
