JOINT STOCK SHARES. HONGKONG, 27th July. There is no busi- ness of any importance to report with the except- ion of Indo-Chinas, which have been dealt in to a fair extent. The market generally conti- nues dull, but rates seem steadier and any de- mand for shares in most of the leading stocks is not readily met.
BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais have ruled steady to firm with but little or no busi- ness at from 300 per cent. prem. to 305 per cent. prem., and at time of closing could be placed in small lots at the latter rate. The meeting of the Corporation is advertised for 18th August. Transfer books closing from 4th to 18th August inclusive. Nationals unchanged and without business.
MARINE INSURANCES.-There is no business to report under this heading except a small sale of China Traders at $58.
FIRE INSURANCES.-Both Hongkongs and Chinas continue on offer at quotations without business.
SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macaos have been placed at $30 and close steady at thatrate. Indo-Chinas have been dealt in to a fair extent at $70 for cash, market closing steady at that rate. Douglases remain neglected as also China Manilas. China Mutuals are en- quired for in a small way at quotations.
