Bangal-At the commencement of the fort- night moderate sales were effected at $1,020 for both New Patna and Benares for spot cargo, and $9974/1,000 for Patna and $1,008 for Benares ex 6d. gale. At the close, however, there is a quieter feeling in the market, and the Chinese are waiting to hear what the Indian Government is going to declare for sale next year before resuming business. A small lot of Old Patna and Old Benares changed hands at $1,085 and 1,045 respectively.
Persian-Some business has transpired in fine quality at $880/900.

COURSE OF THE HONGKONG OPIUM MARKET.
Raw Cotton.-Importers of Indian descriptions have come down in their ideas of values and a concession of $1 to $2 per picul has induced business in 200 bales superfine machine-ginned Bengal at from $22 to 822), leaving stock of about 4,000 bales on the market, which closes very dull. No sales have been reported in other kinds. Quotations are Bengal $18 to $23, Rangoon $17 to $22, and China $25 to $26.

From Shanghai the undernoted restricted busi- ness has been reported in Indian, Japanese and Local spinnings during the fortnight ending 17th instant, viz.-

Total sales 4,926 bales, comprising hales No. 108., 180 bales No. 128., 220 bales No. 168., and 1,136 bales No. 20s., prices showing a decline Tls. 1 and market closing weak with very gloomy prospects owing to the serious po- litical situation in Pekin.
