The following is the report for presentation to shareholders at the fourth ordinary meeting to be held at the office of the General Managers, Shanghai, on Friday, 22nd December, 1899, at 3 p.m. :-
The General Managers submit a Statement of Accounts to the 31st October, 1899, showing the result of twelve months' working to that
date.
The total number of Spindles ordered, 50,144, have now all been erected, but a small quantity of preparing machinery has still to arrive and therefore not more than 49.432 Spindles have been run on any one day; the average for the year being 43,878 Spindles. The year commenced with low prices for Cotton, but with low and un- remtinerative prices for Yarn, so much so, that the first six months showed an actual, if only small, 1688

The second six months witnessed a great advance in the price of Cot- ton, which was not followed by an equal rise in the price of Yarn, in consequence of which the year ends with only the small profit of Taels 14,427,56, of which it is proposed to transfer Taels 12,000 to Depreciation Account and to carry forward Taels 2,427,56 to next year.
Consulting Committee. In accordance with Artiole XVII the members retire but, being eligible, offer themselves for re-election.
Auditor.-Mr. Wingrove offers himself -for re-election.
