SHANGHAI
18th Nov.-(From Mesara; `. Noël, Murray & Co.'s Piece Goods Trade Report Piece Goods. The past week has been an ex- cetionally dull one in every way and the business reported has been almost nil. After the close of last mail there were some apparent orders placed on the market, but the prices offered showed no in- duo-ment to holders, who steadily declined to demand in view of the continued firmness in the Home markets. Beyond the auctions there is scarcely anything to report, and there is an almost entire absence of news from the various Outports. The last steamer of the season has left for New. chwang, and from present appearances it would seem that Tientsin is already a closed feature for this year as far as this market is concerned, and shipinents hence have recently been much eur. tailed by the unus nal tightness in the local money market. No relief seemstoappear from the River and Ningpo markets, which remain in the same lifeless condition as mentioned last week.”
METALS 20th November (From Messis. Alex, Bielfeld & Co.'s Report)--In Metabe there han been some slight enquiry, but home prices are too high. Nailrods are now quoted at home at 2: 58. the "spot” quotation here ruling about Tis. 4 40, as compared with Tls. 8.00 a year ago. Liverp ol Horse shoes are quoted 1148. to 115s, but the highest price secured locally has been 106», for newly arrived cargo. In consequence where sin- porters were ordering 10,000: piculs a year ago, they now fear to order: 2,000, Yet, home reporta show that producers are fully booked, for months ahead, and everything seems to point to a firm market. The following has been done 1-80 tons Liverpool Horse shoes at 1068, spot; 50 fina Cable Wire, at Auction at Tis.8.25; 100 pieces Iron Platwijk 1166. c. i. f. 6.; Black Sheet Irou at 418 104
