This has long been an object with the Directors of this company; there have heen, and still are, many difficulties in arranging matters. but the question is one which is now generally recognised as of high import- ance, and I trust that out of the schemes which are now under consideration a workable basis of foreign combination may be

very well, except in front of goal, where he failed to shine. Although the Club won, the players lacked go, and the absence of dash around the goalposts was noticeable. Anton was in good form and did some smart things. Mayson played better than we have seen him play before, and Howard did well. Danby again worked brilliantly on the left wing, but in the last two or three matches Lowe hax

and pessimistic dissertation upon the un- satisfactory conditions of our local cotton market, I am pleased to be able to go on to say that the Company has made its arrangements for supplies of cotton fully suffi- cient for many months to come, and we are in the position of being able to look on at the local rigging of the market with considerable com- plaisance. At the same time, however, I do not for a moment barke the fact that the mills here were established with the object of ntilising the local raw material; it is fortunate, no doubt, that we have the advantage of being able to buy in other markets, and so make ourselves in great measure indepenpent of local conditions a fact which think is not sufficiently taken into account by the manipulators of the cotton market here. Nevertheless, the intention of our mills was, aud is, to spin Chinese cotton, and the sooner that there is combination to bring the local cotton dealers to their senses, the better.
The report and accounts were adopted and the usual formal business transacted.

game was not started until fifteen minutes after the advertised time. Hongkong lost the toss and had to play the first half against a blazing sun. Noble sent the ball out to Lowe on the right wing immediately on setting the leather in motion, but Thornhill secured and enabled his side to make an attack upon Hongkong's goal. Lieut. Brown, however, shot wide. Hongkong relieved, and returned to the En- gineers' end, where a lot of touch play took matters, and ran into Hongkong's quarters, but place. The soldiers eventually got the best of Mayson relieved to the centre. Looker got possession and sent to Lowe, but the latter kicked the ball over the line. Hongkong made another attack, and Noble compelled Ravenor to throw away. Then a good bit of play was the latter was pressed, and he counter-passed to witnessed. Still Hongkong pressed, but the ball could not be put through, and the assailed eventually cleared. They could not get near Hongkong's uprights though, for Auton put in a lot of work and re- peatedly pushed Ramsdan into touch whenever they secured the ball and Mather and attempted to get away. Again the Eng ineers were beseiged, and Hancock tried to break through the defence with a low shot, but the ball went wide. The Engineers then got away and compelled Kew to fist away. Dan was cleared on the wing for occasional bits of sma:t footwork, but Danby in the end got the best of Deane, and sped away with the ball, and he put in an oblique shot which gave Tavernor all be could do to keep the ball out of the net. On Monday morning Kowloon was the scene some interesting manoeuvres in connection with the Naval Brigade. A body of marines guarded the coal depot, another body of marines being stationed on the hills. The Bluejackets
attacked from over the hills, and so far as we can gather they are supposed to have been suc- cessful.

25TH CO. R.A. V. H.M.S. POWERFUL,
On Monday, the 25th Co., Eastern Division R. A. played H.M.S. Powerful in the third round for the Challenge Shield. The latter
team proved itself too good for the soldiers, and won the tie by "3-goals to nil. Whether the Powerful won or lost, it mattered little as far as the Shield competition is concerned, for the big oruiser left Hongkong on Mon- its team to play off the semi-final or the day, and will not return in time for final, even if it had worked into that coveted stage. Those who were successful in scoring the goals for the Powerful were: Leather, 2; Heap, 1. Robinson scored for the Artillery. It must be somewhat aggravating to the Power tion of the competition; more so this year, as ful players to have to leave before the comple their going away before the finish is a repetition of what occurred last season.
By winning this match Hongkong secures a position in the semi-final. For the losers Thornhill as left back played a capital game. Deane was the pick of the "halves, and worried Danby not a little. Mather and Lt. Brown did most of the work forward, and Kerrigan did
HONGKONG FOOTBALL OLUB v. 38TH CO, R.A,
The Hongkong Football Club on the 8th March met the 38th Co., Southern Division|Royal Artillery, on the Happy Valley, and played a game under Association rules. The Club's team was weak forward, and in consequence lost the match by three goals to two. Play had been in progress about 10 minutes when The R.A. then instituted an attack, and the Club pressed and Green sored the first goal Frost smartly kicked the ball into the net, Green making a charge on Kew and preventing the latter getting at the ball. Green all through the game was smart in making a for- ward rush when the ball was shot, and worried Kew not a little. Five minutes after the R.A. scored their first goal, they assailed again, and Frost once more put the ball through. Up to the call of half-time the Club had the best of the play, but none of its players could break through the defence of the Artillery, and Mr* Brown blew his whistle for the interval with the R.A. leading by two goals to one.
When the second half was started, Danby moved from the left wing to the centre, and he had been playing in that position for about ten minutes, when the ball was passed to him, and he cleverly evaded two or three opponents, and also beat Murphy, which equalised matters, But the Artillery were not to be denied, and Frost again added another goal. Nothing. more was scored up to the call of time, and the soldiers left the ground victorious by three goals to two. For the plucky manner in which the Artillery played, they certainly deserved to win.

VICTORIOUS v. 25TH 00., RA. The above teams met on the 9th March to try conclusions in the third round for the Challenge Shield. The sailors' team was full strength, but, the Artillery were handicapped by losing four of their old players, and, in consequence, lost the game. Up to half time the play was very close, neither of the teams having much advantage, and as far as the score was concerned, it finished one all. €19,
