THIRD DAY, THURSDAY, 23RD FEBRUARY. Beautiful weather again favouring the Race Meeting yesterday there was a still further improvement in the times of the different events, the public also attending in greater numbers. The time in the race for the Championship Stakes was 3-16, but considering the rain we have had recently it may be said to be really better than that of last year (3.141), when the elements were mach more propitious on the first day of the race and immediately before.
Rather long odds were laid on Yellow Dwarf for this race, but it made an exceedingly poor show, being ont of the race altogether. Tyne, on the other hand, was to the front almost from the first. When nearing home Forest King drew out and Strathfleet also began to look dangerous. Forest King got ahead, but Tyne just managed to win. Tyne was again successful in winning the Challenge Cup, which now becomes the property of the owners of the pony, Messrs. Toeg and Pobst. The time was 358 against 349 The Governor's Cup was won by Messrs. Mokie and Gove's Strathfleet notwithstanding a penalty of 14 lbs., and the jockey (Mr. (raw- ford) is to be congratulated upon the perform. ance. As they were the winners last year it now becomes their property. Messrs. McKie and Gove have also won the German Cup two years in succession. There was a stiff race for the Ladies' Purse, Mr. R. M. Gray's Sandstorm just managing to pull it off. Miss Blake pre- sented the prize to the jookey, Mr. Burkill, who handed her a bouquet and then called for three cheers for the ladies of Hongkong, a call which was heartily responded to. Tocsin and Strathmore tied for the second place in this
