Shanghai 10th December.-(From Messrs Noël, Murray & Co's Piece Goods Trade Report). Piece Goods. Although the amount of business published is small, there has been a fair amount of transactions passing, and the "nibbling" that REFINERIES China Sugars again changed has been going on between buyers and holders hands early in the week at $138 for settlements has within the past two days resulted in several and have been since negotiated at lines being placed for shipment by the first Tien-market closes with sellers at $137. I tsin steamers next season. The goods receiving most atttention have been 8.4 lbs. Grey Shirtings and 64-reed White Shirtings, as far as first hands are concerned, but at the same time several large lots of heavy Grey Shirtings and American goods have been disposed of by the native holders. In some instances the inducement of prompt cash has induced some holders to realize, even below replacing costs, but forward business on the some basis has not met with much favour from importers and does not appear quite good enough. Seeing, however, that there are large stocks in the hands of natives here and that the bulk of cargo coming forward will be on dealer's account it is not probable that prices will be allowed to drop and the market may be expected to keep fairly steady, An advance in exchange could easily upset these calculations, while the advices from the llome markets are not so promising as they were. The Manchester market is reported steady, but dull, with Cotton down to 41d., while it is reported that goods are being offered and sales actually made from New York at prices below last quotations.
Metals.(From Messrs. Aler Bielfeld & Co. Report) 11th December: Native holders of cargo are now, some of them, in great straits, the onl banks being forced in one or two cases to carry dealers through until spring. As an indication of the congested state of the market, máy mentioned that the bonded godowns, which never since their institution have been much used, now so full that cargo is dail Chinese in the interior seem to be feelin pinch of hard times, as they forego m though they can purchase
