TONNAGE.
few
HONGKONG, 23rd September-During the past volume of business transacted has been small. From fortnight freights have continued dull and the Saigon to Hongkong there is no business doing. From Saigon to Singapore and to Sourabaya Hongkong there does not appear to be much demand fixtures are reported at poor rates. From Java to
for tonuage. From Bangkok to this there is no en quiry for steamers and the regular lines at very poor rates provide more tonnage than is required at pre- sent. Newchwang to Canton a little business lias been doing for loading in about three weeks at very low rates: There does not seem to be much prospect of coal freights in this direction this season. Japan coal freights have shown a further decline, tonnage this and a fixture having been made at $1.65 to having been offered at 90 cents per ton from Moji to Singapore, at which figure further tonnage is offer ing.
