Metals and Miscellaneous. (From Mr. Aler: Bielfeld's report).-10th May-There has been ■* small business doing in Lead, Australian, at Th. 4.80 to Tls, 4.90. Stocks are about 1,000 tons; there were 20,500 piculs imported and 8,800 picula 1.85 re-exported in April, against 7,000 and 12,884 piculs respectively during the same month last year. About 2,200 piculs have been re-shipped since 1st inst. Pig Iron has no met with atten- tion; stocks of Gartsherrie are almost nil; other brands are obtainable at Tls. 18 to Tls. 19. Im ports of Pig, Nailrod, and other Manufactured Iron and Old Iron in April this year foot up to piculs. 51,800 and re-exports to picula 42,800, against piculs 50,300 and 65,200 in April last year. Comparing the first four months this year with the same period last year, I find that imports of Pig Iron, Nailrods and Manufactured Iron in 1894 were piculs 89,180, against piculs 208,130 (of which 64,490 were Pig Iron) in 1895, piculs 102,478 Old Iron in 1894, against 140,323 in 1895, and re- exports of Manufactured Iron, etc., piculs 98,037, against pienis 96,221 this year, and piculs 86,681 Old Iron last year, against 55,448 this year. Re- shipments of old material since the 1st are about 10,000 piculs.
