Another major function of Legco is control of the expenditure of public money by the government.
has a standing. The counc11 comittee called the Finance Committee, which consists of all the Fnon-government members of the council, plus the Chief Secretary, Financial Secretary. and one other official member. This committee: examines, all. government spending.
At special meetings in March, it kooks into the government's estimates of revenue and expenditure. for the coming year. And at regular. meetings through the year, it considers requests for extra public expenditure. All Finance Committee meetings are held in public.
Another Legco committee is. the Public Accoumts Committee, which has only non-government members. The committee examines the Director of Audit's report on the government's accounts for the past year, to make sure that public money has been upaspend properly. The comittee meets. public and presents its findings. *and recommendations to Legco.
