The rise of nation-states in Europe (1) The independence of Belgium.

If we study Europe in the 1830's from a political perspective, we can come up with conclusion that it was divided into 3 different kinds of political structures.

-The first kind was the well-organized and independent states which had undergone tremendous economic changes and their

- A proportion of the population was middle class who yearned for a democratic form of government.

Since they were independent and had a liberal economy, they exerted a certain degree of political and economic influence inside and outside Europe, Britain and France belonged to this category..

The second type of states were states which were under the foreign rule.

to

-Partly influenced by the ideas advocated in the French Revolution, and partly influenced by the policies of Napoleon, these states were inclined

nationalism and liberalism. -Thus, their first concern

fight for independence since only an Independent state could be powerful. Not only Italians and Germans, but also the ethical. minorities living under the Turkish empire belonged to this group.
