Describe. Hitler's foreign

policy up to the outbreak for the Second World War.

Describe the reactions of }Britain, France and

Soviet Russia to the policy in the same period.

Hitler came to power in 1933. The Second World War broke out in ∙1939. So you are asked to describe Hitler's foreign policy just between these aix years. You must first of all point out the motives of Hitler'a foreign policy. It was with these motives in mind that Hitler took measures to fulfil them.

The first important motive vas to free:

Germany from the restric- tions of the Versailles Treaty of 1919. The Germans bad always regarded the treaty terms as a national humiliation, and Hitler wanted to undo them. The second motive was

include all Germans in other East European countries" into Germany, The third motive was to extend German influence into Eastern Europe so as to form a large German empire that would last for a thousand years. Such was Hitler's forei policy in theory.

In discussing Hitler's foreign policy in "practice, just trace the

measures that he took. Pick these measures out by tracing the years one after another. The main thing to remember is that at first Hitler moved cautiously in foreign

to arouse policy so`as the least suspicion and attention among the great powers. Towards the Jatter years of the period 1933-39, however, Hitler became more and more aggressivė, So Germany withdrew from the disarmament con ference and left the League of Nations in 1934, one year after his coming to power. In 1935. he declared Germany would no longer be bound by the ter of the Versailles Treaty that restricted the size of German arnaments. Thereafter,. German rearmament: was undertaken. In 1936, to show her refusal to obey any international agree- ments that the Allies dictated, Germany announced she vas no

longer bound by the peace.

Comintern Pact with Fascist Italy.

In 1938, in.

fulfillment of his motive of uniting all fellow Germans into Germany', Hitler tried to KÜRDI Austria, which was a German-speaking nation. The Austrian President was summoned to Germany and threatened to hand pover over to the German-controlled

Austrian Nazis. The completion of the annexation was known as Auschluss in history..

Then Hitler picked his next victim,

Czechoslovakia. The Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia contained many Germans, and Hitler threatened Czechoslovakia to surrender the region |toGermany. Au

international crisis resulted. Chamberlain of Britain met Hitler in Munich in late 1938 in search of a peaceful. settlement of the crisis, |but in the end. Hitler goo

all he wanted. This passive attitude of Britain and France (i7e. cowardly submittion to facist dictators and their aggression) was written down in history

| as "appeasement",

Western powers hoped that aggressors like Germany and Italy would be satisfied with territorial gains sod | would stop. Turther

aggressive expansion, The contrary happened. Hitler was encouraged: expansionist ambition and moved to annex Poland, after swallowing Czechoslovakia as a whole in early 1939. The Western powers were

alarmed. Poland had not any German minority. Germany therefore had not any: excuse for the protection of her own people. Britain and France promised support for Relnud in case of any German aggression, The German's really

fear

Of another woria War, and the belief that some of Hitler's demands jn foreign policy were justified).

As for the reaction of

Soviet Russia to the Nazi aggressions, just

remember that before the

Munich appeasement, Stalin (dictator in (Russia) tried to come

into, an alliance with the. Western powers against

Nazi Germany, He even ordered communists all over the world to suspend the struggle against their capitalist govera- ments. for the time being and to enter into an alliance with the middle- class so as to defend the fatherland of communism (Soviet Russia) against facist empires like Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. These policies, however, aroused suspicion from the Western powers, who were

alow in responding to the Russian proposal for an anti-Nazi frent. Knowing that cooperation with countries like Britain and France against Nazi Germany was rot praticable, Stalin begaa turning to litter himself for a deal in 1938. The Munich pact. further convinced Stalin that the Western powers vere encouraging German nggrèssion in Eastern Europe as a way to act. against Soviet Russia, Consequently, he entered into a pact, known as the Nazi-Soviet Noom: aggression pact, with |Germany im 1939. The main

effect of this pact was to free Hitler from having to reserve German troops against Soviet. Russia and therefore to encourage Germany to. invade Poland in 1September 1979. The final 「result was the Second. World War.

Just don't be frightened, off by the term "reactions" in the question. Take it as the "polícies" of the powers: tovarda Nazi aggressions, 「The Western. powers

reaction was appeasement. The Soviet reaction was

cooperation with Hitler.. Both -failed to stop

Germany from further aggression, and that's why war was on in 1939.

It is important; in answering this question, to clearly describe each of the main historical events of Nazi expan- sionism in the period. Some explanation of the background to the events and their effects on one another should be includ- ed, for example, tha

is transport, and developed transport. enables firms to set up their factories away from population

centres.

(7)Another factor is

government measures euch as the setting up up of Industrial Estates Provisional Authority, the Planned. development zones for industry, e.g. Shatin, Castle Peak etc., the prohibition of certain industries in certain areas to prevent pollution, e.g. the assigning of land for special projects.

What is in

The effects inflation upon the daily life of an average long kong consumer are::

The effects of inflation upon different groups of consumers are: essentially different, In. general, there will be a rise in the price of consumer goods and services, e.g. rents, food-stuffs etc. The purchase and consumption patterns of consumers will change, accordingly. Necessary goods will increase in demand while spending on luxuries will he decreased. Savings will also he leas and people will try to earn more money to increase

their real incOME80 Generally speaking. debtore and people whose incomes, respond quickly to inflation will gain while creditors and....... people with relatively fixed income will lose. Lower income people will likely be hurt more because of the rise in the prices of necessary items. Thus, there is generally a redistribu- 「tion of income. The people in Hong Kong will tend to purchase more {imported items since

Like- vise, as the prices of exports of Hong Kong rise due to inflation, competitive power of these items will be veakened and exporta tend to decrease. Since Hong Kong is so export dependent, the economy

of Hong Kong and hence the life of the consumers vill bé adversely affected.
