(f) How would you

(g) Give 3 importances of

Hydrilla to the animals in a fresh.

water pond.

Answers-

(a) Test tube A is taken as a control for comparing the colour of the bicarbonate. indicator solution test tubes B, C and

·D.

(b) The colour of

solution in test tube B changes to yellow. It is because carbon dioxide is released during the

respiration of the snail. The increased carbon dioxide

concentration causes the solution to change to yellow

(c) The colour of

solution in test tube C changes to red.

It is because under

the bright light

condition, the activity of

photosynthesis occurs

to a greater extent:

than that of

respiration. The decreased carbon dioxide concentration causes the solution to change to red.

(d) Since carbon dioxide released by both

organisms during respiration

compensates the amount consumed by the activity of photosynthesis,

there

is no change in the carbon dioxide

concentration in the solution..

(e) Tube B.

It is because of no additional oxygen supply for the respiration of the snaid.

(1) Tube D.

It is because both the guail and the plaut use oxygen for respiration.

To prevent carbon dioxide from dissolving in the boiled water. There- fore. Hydrilla in B gets no supply of carbon dioxide.

(b) (1) Oxygen.

(2) To insert a

glowing splint into the test- tube.

If the glowing splint relights; X is oxygen. (c) (1) Photosynthesis.

(2) carbon dioxide

glucose+oxygen

(d) Carbon dioxide is

required for the release of gas X.

(e) Temperature.

The environmental:

temperature affects the activities of the photosynthetic. enzymes and therefore the rate of photosynthesis.

(f) To use water

saturated with carbon dioxide instead of oil and boiled water, and then place tlie set-up in darkness. (g) (1) It removes carbon

dioxide from water.

(2) It supplies

oxygen to the animals.

(3) It serves as a

food source for the animals.
