本人非常興幸,能夠出席油旺區文化錦標大賽的揭幕儀式。這項為期十過的比賽,包括 的體育以及文化活動,實在不勝枚舉;相信定能吸引人衆。......
̇油旺區文化錦標大賽可算是一次新嘗試。當然,不同形式的區際體育及康樂比賽,以往
·亦有舉辦。像這樣多姿多采的大型綜合節日,迄今卻還是首次。這次大賽,定為未來有更多 參賽區域而又具相當規模的比賽鋪路。本人深信是次大賽的各個項目,都能有美滿的成績。 本人更盼望支持這次大賽的油旺兩區區議會,以及人賽籌劃人員,能客觀地細心觀察市民對 各項比賽的反應,作為策劃日後活動的指標。
舉辦此等人賽,需要周詳的計劃及工作人員的努力。在籌備工作方面,各地區領袖亦必 如往常一樣,花了不少時間和心血。市民或其子女,在參與及欣賞各項賽事當之歡樂中又能 否體會到各地區領袖在這裡所下的努力有多人?他們為社會作出的貢獻,是應該得到大家的 讚賞
最後,本人很榮幸能夠作為是次大賽的名譽贊助人。趁此盛會,我恭祝各位,更預祝所 有參與油旺區文化錦標大賽的工作人員成功。

I am delighted to be present at the Opening Ceremony of the Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok Inter-District Competitions which will be held over the next ten weeks. The competi- tions include virtually every kind of sporting and cultural activity which you can think of and so should have a very wide appeal.
Competitions between districts in different sports and pastimes have, of course, been held before. But this is a much more comprehensive programme than has been tried hitherto, and is something of an experiment. There is clearly a possibility of competitions involving the. more districts over a fairly comprehensive system of district competitions being held in t
organisers: future. Of course different items will be more or less successful and
id the Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok District Boards which have supported the project. will do well to. view the contests carefully and objectively to see where effort should be focussed in the future..

There is a lot of hard work and meticulous planning involved in a project of this kind, and, as ever, local leaders have put much time and energy into the work. Ioften wonder if. those who enjoy competitons themselves or those whose children benefit from them appreciate just how much they owe to efforts of their local leaders. This dedication deserves the recognition of all.
Finally, I must say that I am honoured to be the Honorary Patron of this project. congratulate you on this happy occasion. I wish all who have contributed to the project every success.
