HONG KONG PHAB ASSOCIATION PHAB Stands for Physically Handicapped & Able Bodied.

The Association promotes the integration of these two groups of people.

Miss Mary Robinson, founder of the United Kingdom's National PHAB visited Hong Kong and introduced the idea of PHAB which offered "opportunity. not pity" for both the physically handicapped and the able bodied. The Hong Kong PHAB Asso ciation was established The first PHAB Centre- was set up in October. 1973 in Sheung Li Uk Estate. This Shamshulpo PHAB Centre served as

a base for organising PHAB activities. In September 1976, the Association's second Centre was set up in Hing Wah Estate, Chal Wan

This Chaiwan PHAB Centre was expanded in 1977. To serve the East Kow-? loon District, the PHAB Association set up a new Centre in Lam Tin Estate in September 1978 In April 1979 the Asso- ciation is opening a new complex on the site of Pokfulam Re- servoir Road. This new Lady MacLehose Centre covers an area of 100,000 sq. ft. and is built on land granted by the Hong Kong Govern- ment with funds provided by the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club.
