Peace Settlement of the First World War
BACKGROUND - 1. Need for: signing peace treaties with the defeated Central Powers.
- Now that Germany and Austria had been defeated, peace treaties with them: were necessary.
Need for re-drawing the map of Europe - The Austrian Empire consisted. Cof many people. They were under Austrian domination before 1919. When Austria broke up, the victorious. allies felt the need to decide on the boundaries of the new countries in East Europe.
AIMS OF PEACEMAKERS

by President Wilson. Wilson was an idea idealistic man. He "advocated the Fourteen Points (ideals of peace and justice.). Because the USA had contributed greatly to the victory of the Allies, the other pallied powers often had (3

Poland so that Poland had an outlet to the sea. The outlet was called the Polish Corridor.

and was controlled by the League of Nations.
4. Germany was heid
responsible for bringing about the First World War. Germany had to pay a large sum of money as compensation to the Allies. The sum of money was called reparations.
6. Germany lost nearly all her armed forces so that in. future she could not make
any war.
