A. The difference between
heavy industries and light industries:
Both heavy industries and light industries refer to the manufacturing sectors in which produc- tion activities are carried out to produce semi- finished product of finish- ed products directed to to satisfy peoples's wants. Light industries are. those industries which need relatively which need capital but greater amount of labour force in the manufacturing processes.

Hong Kong is an industrial and commercial centre. There is rapid. Industrial development in recent years. Hong Kong had been transformed from an: entrepot into an industrial community heavily dependent on the export-oriented industries. The majority of Hong Kong's manufacturing concent rate on the " production and export of light consumers goods such as textiles, clothing, electronics and plástic products. These industries predominate local industrial industrial development and account for about 70% of total domestic exports. Furthermore, there are
more than 67% of total employment force involved in light industries.

Industrial promotion in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong depends much on exporting industries to support local economic survival. Since there are a number of existing hinderances of development of local industries such as shortage of land, dependence: on imported resources, insufficient supply of skilled labour; over-concentration of markets and productsaid so on. Several measures are being done to remedy the above problems and help the development:

Establishment of industrial estates and. -flat resettlement blocks- cp The shortage of: industrial land has long been a serious problem. Accordingly, the Hong Kong Industrial Estates Corporation has been established and it is responsible for the planning and completing new industrial estates on one hand, and reclamation and site formation on the other. Up to now, Tai Po
Industrial Estate is now nearly completed. The new industrial estates will serve the purpose of helping small labour intensive factories which suffer from high rents recently.
B. Townplanning
There are two bodies. undertaking long-term development town planning projects in reclamation-and

sites. They are namely:
Town Planning Board and the
Development Policy Committee. They are responsible for carrying out the following tasks: (1) to lay down general
planning concepts and policies and to determine the locational factors för the provision of community. and other facilities in the Hong Kong Outline Plan.

industrial prohects
There are special Industrial projects being carried out in some new satellite towns such as Tsing Yi Esiand. In the mean time; land was granted. by government through the private treaty in operation,
