1. what is meant by the divisian of labour and what are its ádvantages? Show how the size of the market limits the de- gree of specialisation.
Division of labour is de- fined as the specialisation of tasks within the production Process of a particular commòdi- ty. Each worker only does one task which represents a small Fraction of the tasks necessary to produce the commodity. Where division of labour is by Process, only a small part of the work is undertaken by one person, each of whom specialize in a single process.
Division of labour can exist in any family, town, country, and in the world.
Let us consider its ad- vantages:
workers
(1) Greater skill of the Division of labour
reduces every workman's busi- ness to some simple operation. The constant repetition of a single task makes him acquire greater skill at his job.
(2) A saving of time
By keeping to a single operation, a workman can accomplish a great deal more, since he wastes less time between operations.. Besides, less time is required to learn how to perform h single operation than to learn the whole process.
(3) Specialisation: Kach workman can specialise in the work for which he has the greatest aptitude and skill.
(4) It makes Possible the use of machinery
Once a. Piece of work has been reduced to mere routine, it opens the way for the employment of a machine to carry out the opera- tion, and mass-production methods can be introduced.
Degree of specialisation is limited by the size of the market which determines the demand for the commodity. Pro- duced in the market. Three reas reasons can be given
(1) The higher the demand for the commodity is the fur- ther increase in total Satput. will be. This will necessitate specialisation, and greater division of labour vill occur.
(2) In a densely popula- (2), in a densely popula ted area division of labour can be carried to greater lengths than in a thinly popula ted area.
(3) Wider distribution of manufactures enables extension of the market and greater specialisation.
Exercise:
Discuss the ecomomies of large- scale production. Explain why some small firms still exist.

III Animal Nutrition
(二) 梁永華
Organisms which cannot synthe- aize their own food substances from simple inorganic materials, and therefore must depend on external sources are called heterotrophs.
Most animals perform holozojc nutrition i.e. they take in solid organic material of other organism. Nutrition here involvas:
A Ingestion: the take in of solid
food.
B Digestion: the breaking down of
complex organic food into simple diffusible molecules by enzymes.
C Absorption: the passage of digested materials through the intestinal wall into the body fluids,
D Assimilation: the incorporation of
food materials into the protow plasm of the organisa.
E Egestion the removal of undigested
food. REVISION TEST 1
