Foreword

This column is intended:main- Ty for candidates who are sitting for the Hong Kong Certificate of.. Education Examination, taking. East Asian and European history.

In the first instance, the writer: would like to remind candidates of the new syllabus which will come into effectiri the 1974 examination.

The "examination will consist of TWO papers each of 12 hours duration. Each paper will be divided into three sections.

In Paper I, candidates will be required to answer TWO essay- type questiona, taken from either One or both of the sections choser: for Paper TI answers.

Four essay- type questions will be set for each of the three sections,

Paper II will consist of. short questions. Candidates will be required to answer ALL questior ws from any TWO sections of the paper..

Section A: East Asia, 1860-1952 Section B: Europe, 1870-1960. Section.C: The United States of

America, 1860-1960.

從本星期二開始,世界歷史料預習問題專欄又和各位同學見面了 由於1974年開始實施中英文中學會考合併的關係,本科課程範圍及會 考試方式,與往屆有很大的改變,根據一九七四年香港中學會考規指 是本科可用中文或英文錄考之科目,本欄之題目,用中文作答的考生固然 可以參考,至於保健用英文作答的考生也可以參考。因為英文世史與中文 ∵世史踝程大部份都是類似的,若果選用英文作答,考生除了溫習英文課本

之外,再溫習本欄,更可收事半功倍之效。

爲力便應考生溫習起見,姦將本屆世史之試題方式及考試範圍摘錄

(一)試想方式:日本科分甲、乙一,每卷考試時間各一小時十五 分鐘。每名命理,各按照下列觸發,分一、二、三等三組&Ö甲委备選取 論述浊,考生共須選答二期,此二題可同在一組,或分在二梃,惟必須湑 乙所揮答之組別。每組命題答四題。今乙卷爲短試題。考生可於三組題 目中任撵二組,所提之題目全答。

Question for the next issue: Compare the foreign policy of Bismarch between. 1870 and 1890 with that of his successdrs in the Imperial Chancellery up to 1914.

Note: The foreign and domestic policies of Bismarck 1870-1890 becomes a more important examin ation subject as the Unification. of Germany is excluded from the new syllabus.

There will be two parts in Paper One which is for Composition test. Candidates will be required to write about 200 words on a specia. topic based on the materials arid information provided in part one which is compulsory. While in Fart 2, candidates will be requir ed to write about 300 words on one of the given topics. which as what. they have appeared in the. previous examination papers, will include narrative,"descriptive.. and discussion topics.

Candidates may also be requir -ed to write in letter form', in: either Part One or Part Two or both parts. Letter writing is something that should not be ignored.

Paper II which will be a test of Bummary writing or precis will be a one hour paper. A passage. of about 600 words will be used to 'test candidates, ability in understanding and writing English.

Paper III, set in the form of Multiple Choice Questions on various aspects of English usage, will be a 13 hour paper. Oral Bogliah test is also another part for candidates to experience.

In the next issue, revision and discussion will be made on the writing of composition since it has become an independent and
