A Sectional Structure of the Incisor Tooth

(1) Man

an- omnivore: Vegetables and meats are taken by man so the dentit- ion is perfect. Foods are cut, torn and ground by incisors, canines, premolars and "molars.

(ii) Rabbit --a herbivore:

Only vegetables are taken in as foods. The incisors are usually very sharp for cutting foods. The tearing and piercing actions are not necessary, so the canines are absent or less developed. The pre- molars and molars are spe- cialized for grinding and chewing the vegetables by moving the jews from side to side.

iii) Dog -- a carnivore:

The incisors are chisel- edged for cutting the fleah The canines are long, curved and pointed for tearing the flesh and acting as weapons for offence and defence.

The last upper premolar and the first lower molar are particularly large, known as camassial teeth, acting as a pair of scissors for getting off flesh from. bones more easily.
