Words are

the tools with which we express ourselves. If we wish to speak and write better English, we must take every chance of adding to our vocabulary. One of the downfalls of local students. in leaming new words is that ther do not know where to begin and how to go about doing it, To learn a new word does not mear to memorize its meaning by heart. So if you come across a new word in your reading, do not turn to the dictionary for its meaning straight-away. First, try to guess its meaning from the con- text, that is from the meaning of the rest of the passage. Then you look it up in the dictionary to check. 11 you had more often guessed correctly, then you are improving. The next time you sec the same word again, it would be like meeting an old friend. next thing to do is to try and use the word in your written work. With practice, you will realize that you know more as time goes by.
