Study of heart and blood;

I HEART: structure and function

POSITION -

The heart of mammal is situated on the ventral side of the body, between the two lungs in the thoracic region. just anterior to the diaphragm. It is surrounded by a thin colourless seabrane called pericardium or pericardial nom brane.

FUNCTION 2

The pumping action of the heart. muscle (cardiac muscle) helps to circu- late the blood around the body. The per icardium is to protect the heart, reduc- ing the friction between it and the sur rounding structures during ite movement.

The heart chambera — the heart is divided into 4 chambera.

1. The two anterior chambere are

called reft & right auricles (or atria, Singular - atrium). They have thinner walls & smaller in B120" Function:

To left ventricle -- The aortic aron which is a very thick blood. vessel joining to the dorsal aorta or main artery, passing the blood to all parts of the body. înere are valves at the bases of the pulmonary arteriee and the aortic arch (these vessels pass blood away from the heart) called semilunar valves (half- mdon valves) used to prevent the backw flow of blood into the ventricles.

(2) Removal of waste producta of metabo-

The waste products are extracted: from various parts of the body and passed to the exorstory organe for elimination,
