(a) Punotions of the bloods

(1) Transportation - (1) The blood (oxyhaemoglobin of the red blood cells) conveys oxygen from the lungs to the tissues and carbon dioxide (daoryhaemoglobin of red blood cells) from the tissues to the lungs.

(ii) The blood carries nourishment, after absorption from the small intestine, first to the liver and then to the tissues.

(iii) The blood conveys the excreta (urea and nitrogenous wastes) to the kidneys for excretion in the urine and to the liver for excretion in the bile.

(2) Chemical co-ordination - Hormones secreted

from the endocrine glands are distributed by the blood to the tissues or cells so as to harronize or co-ordinate the working and functions of the body?

(3). Prevention of infection - The leucocytes

(white blood cells) possess phagocytic action. That is the bacteria or germa invading into the body are ingested or destroyed by the Leucocytes w

(4) Temperature regulation - The blood absorbs

the body heat and carries it to the skin and lungs for dissipation into the air. This is the way to keep the body heat constant and to prevent the body from becoming overbeated. (5) Coagulation of blood for healing process

The blood platelets in the bloed form a olot to stop bleeding by the conversion of fibrinegen into fibrin in the presence calcium ions and other factors.

(6) Maintenance of turgidity of the body - The-
