Read the following passage:
Traffic problems are causing acriume, uunvern in Hongkong. The tremendous growth of population in re- cent years places a heavy burden on public transport aervices. The rise in the standard of living enables. more and more people to own cars. The number of vehicles of all types is far too great for the small mileage of roads. Many of these are narrow and winding and ame unsultable for the speed and volume of present day traffic, To make matters worse, careless. pedestrians often wander off the pavement and add" to the dangers of the road.
Many. attempts have been made to solve these pro blems. The widening of roads, the straightening of dangerous corners, the construction of new .carriagew. ways and fly-overs for cars and of. sub-waye for pedestrians, all help a great deal, But more ima ginative plans are called for, Traffic must be con aidered in town planning. Since cars are here. to stay, they must be used safely and beneficially, With thia in mind, a group of town planners, architects and en- gineers who have studied traffic problems overseas have suggested building the reclaimed area in the Cenu tral District in three layers. Traffic would circum Jate at the ground level, pedestrians would be free to go safely about their business or pleasure at the high er level and the third level would be used for car parks, This may vell serve as a model for the planning of new towns.

Read the following passage carefully and then answer

Last December what had formerly been a peaceful Island in the Pacific became the scene of two natura. disasters, Widespread damage was caused and finally all the inhabitants had to leave and were resettled on another island..
G The first event was an earthquake. The main town
of the island, a sea port with a population of nearly
eight thousandy was most neverely affected, though
there were only four casualties. One of them was fataly a seven-year-old girl was burded in the ruing of her home, Three adults were seriously injured when a wall collapsed upon them. Next morning, while the villagers were returning and the townspeople were searching for their possessions in the ruins, disaster struck again. The earthquake. had been merely a warning of an even greater dangers: the violent eruption of the volcanoe.
